Scott Wolstenholme Conquers 'Britain’s Most Brutal' Ultramarathon for Alzheimer’s Society
Airmaster’s very own Scott Wolstenholme has taken on one of the UK’s most infamous endurance events – the Montane Spine Challenger South – and emerged victorious in spirit, strength, and fundraising, smashing his charity target for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Crossing the finish line in an incredible 47 hours, 47 minutes and 8 seconds, Scott completed the 108-mile ultramarathon that traverses the unforgiving terrain of the Pennine Way. The event, often described as ‘Britain’s Most Brutal’, lived up to its name with 17,700 feet of elevation and relentlessly punishing, boulder-strewn trails that pushed competitors to their physical and mental limits.
“I say this every time I take on something new,” said Scott, “but this race really earns the title. From the moment I set off on Saturday morning, it was a battle—through sleep deprivation, pain, hallucinations, and utter exhaustion. I’ve never been tested like this before.”
Scott tackled the course with just three 10-minute trail naps, opting to switch off from the outside world to focus entirely on the challenge. But during the toughest hours, particularly on Sunday night into Monday morning, it was the quiet support from home that helped him push through.
“My phone was off almost the entire time, but when I checked in with my wife Stacey and daughter Effy, their encouragement meant everything. I hit more low points than I can count—but they pulled me through.”
Despite the blisters, fatigue, and moments of doubt, Scott not only crossed the line but also smashed his fundraising goal, raising £1,705 (and counting) for the Alzheimer’s Society—well above his initial £1,000 target.
“We are incredibly proud of Scott,” said Lisa Pogson, Managing Director at Airmaster. “His grit, determination, and heart perfectly embody our company’s values. This wasn’t just a physical feat—it was an emotional, human one, done for a deeply important cause.”
Scott’s race might be over, but his message is clear: “Push yourself out of your comfort zone. Pick something that makes you wonder if you can do it—and then go prove to yourself that you can.”
The Alzheimer’s Society works to support those affected by dementia and fund vital research towards a cure. Donations to Scott’s campaign are still open and welcome.
